i have a 1 year old desktop with pentium4 3.0 ghz processor intel d101ggc motherboard 1gb ram, geforce 6200tc graphics card i have a broadband connection with cable modem. since 3 or 4 months the system used to hang occasionally while surfing the net. Now it hangs whenever i connect to the net. i tried to rectify the problem by formatting the hard drive and installing the os again(windows xp home). it didnt work. i also changed my hard disk ram and graphics card and still the problem persist. The system also hangs when i tried to install ubuntu linux. What can be the problem please help me.

Windows XP does not install the correct drivers for any of the hardware you've mentioned.. Make sure you have the most recent drivers installed for ALL of your hardware.. Ethernet card? Video card? Audio card? Motherboard/chipset drivers?

Hope this helps.
