Question

System does not recognize USB device (steering wheel)

Mar 18, 2018 1:54PM PDT

I have Konig steering wheel which worked on my old PC. But on my new PC system just don˙t want to recognize it. I already installed original driver for wheel. When I plug in USB I get message that system is trying to recognize and just show message that can˙t to recognize. I already tryed to plug USB in front, still same. I also tryed windows help to solve problem, but still same. Also I updated PC from Win 7 to 10, but still same problem.

Must to say, steering wheel works on another PC, so it is not problem in wheel itself.

What is solution guys ?

To sort this out

You must test again on another PC so you know the wheel is fine.

Since you upgraded to W10 you MUST install the latest BIOS and drivers from the machine makers. DO NOT USE MICROSOFT DRIVER UPDATE. In fact, disable that before you begin this work.

Also, look in Device Manager for any error codes on failed devices.

Finally, many front USB ports are defective or disabled. Only use rear ports that are enabled. Test the BIOS setting for Legacy too on the USB ports.

Same...

I tested steering wheel on ANOTHER W7 PC and works fine.

I installed back W7 on my PC and still same problem. When I plug in wheel on some USB ports I get notification that system can not recognize, and on some USB ports I just hear some sound which tell me that USB device is connected, and that is all, still not working.

I didn't read if you checked Device Manager.

Or if you have the Legacy option and so on.

My thought here is you are looking for a cure and not how I work this issue. Let's hope someone comes along that knows what is busted. My thought is this is not an OS issue unless you believe that Microsoft should be responsible to get the right drivers, set the BIOS for us and more.

What is legacy ?

Sorry, what is thing about legacy, I really don˙t now anything about that ?

It's a BIOS setting most of the time.

To resolve such issues we learn about our PC or take it up with who supports our PC.

I'm just someone that has worked a lot of PC issues over the years. Owned repair shops and more.

...about you installing ALL the motherboard drivers, including for the southbridge chip which controls the USB bus, AFTER you installed any of those windows versions.
