Resolved Question

System boots to black

Aug 16, 2011 2:45AM PDT

Looking at a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. When you turn it on, it boots straight to a black screen. It doesn't seem to even load BIOS. I tried holding either F1, F2 or F10 during boot up attempts trying to get to a diagnostic mode with no luck. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the system board. Any suggestions?

Or?

I run across this with a few laptops that hang on boot when USB things are plugged in.

Try the usual:

1. Unplug all USB things.

2. The generic reset noted in this forum. The short version is power off, remove AC, battery then press and hold the power button for 60 seconds. Release, slip in battery, apply AC and try again.

Any idea what could cause this kind of problem? Thanks!

Yes.

It's a bug in the design. Since there are no perfect designs we use the reset buttons or procedures like I outlined.

It's not caused by us unless we are the ones that designed it!
