System 32 Folder keeps appearing ??

Dec 21, 2003 1:23AM PST

Win XP Pro/Dell 8300/1GB ram

Every time I reboot my system the final thing that occurs is the System 32 folder opens and has to be closed manually. I have no idea why this has happened all of a sudden. I haven't installed any new software, deleted anything or changed any settings. The last thing I did before shutting down the system last night was to run a demo describing the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 I have installed. I made no changes to it, just played it. Any ideas what I can do to stop it from reoccuring? Thanks, Brady

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the information. I checked it out and found nothing in my registry that would indicate this as the problem. I appreciate your help.

Brady, I may have found a solution. Go to the link below and check out Heidi1's Response Number 8 in the thread. To get into msconfig click Start/Run/ the type in MSCONFIG and click OK. Then follow the instructions in that Response Number 8.

Larry,
You found it! I removed the reference in MSCONFIG and it stopped the Sys 32 window from appearing. I'm going to keep looking into this because I find it to be completely annoying. All was fine until I ran their (Creative) Audigy 2 demo. After simply running a useless demo they inserted instructions that have absolutely no purpose whatsoever. I was happy with the card until now. It doesn't take much to sour a users opinion of a product. Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me!

There is an article in the Microsoft Knowledgebase related to a similar problem effecting Win2000 & Win NT systems. ( http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086 ) Perhaps this may be related to what you are experiencing. It has to do with an invalid entry in the system registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" key. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the help. Larry had the same recommendation and after checking it out I didn't find anything wrong in those values. Thanks again!
