SyncMaster 2253BW/LW screen geometry/resolution problem

Dec 11, 2008 3:22AM PST

Hello

A week ago I bought the 2253BW/LW (says BW on package and sticker on the back but LW on the screen).
Anyway, the problem I am having is that the desktop goes out of the edges, it is like the desktop is an inch or so too big for the screen. I've tried with different graphics cards, different drivers and with dvi and vga cables. I've also tried to change every setting in windows/gfx and on the monitor itself. I am runnit it in the monitors native res so I can't understand what the problem is.

I am running XP home. ATI Radeon 4550 on 8.11 drivers, 8.12 came out today haven't tested them yet. All others driver up to date and all latest windows updates including SP installed.

I've drawn, in paint=), a pic if you cant understand what I'm talking about=) http://img53.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2253probxu9.png

So, if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Auto Adjust
Dec 11, 2008 3:50AM PST

What happens when you use the auto-adjust feature on the monitor?

It may be the monitor if that doesn't work. You might want to consider exchanging it.

Auto adjust does not solve it
Dec 11, 2008 4:44AM PST

When I press the button using the vga cable it does something but it doesn't solve it, jut corrects colors or something. I dont want use the vga cable anyway.

When i use the dvi cable the auto adjust feature is disabled. I guess that is how it is supposed to be?

DVI
Dec 11, 2008 4:48AM PST

You are correct.

DVI is already programmed to display pixel-to-pixel, so the fix would either be a resolution issue or there is a malfunction.

By the way, that illustration was great. I'm checking into this now, will post back in a few.

Resolution from video card...
Dec 11, 2008 4:53AM PST

The native resolution is 1680x1050 for that panel. Is that specific resolution being output by the video card?

Also, did you install the drivers/software that came with the unit?

Yes, 1680x1050 is the resolution that I have chosen in display properties. The problem persists at any resolution.

I have installed the software that came with the monitor. And I've tried the latest version of them from Samsungs site. Both the driver it self(not sure why I need a driver for a monitor, perhaps you could explain Happy )and MagicTune. MagicTune has some sort of setup, like the auto adjust thingy, but it hasn't helped.

Stumped...

mattisx,

I have no idea what that could be. You might want to call 800-SAMSUNG to see if one of the techs could help; and if all else fails, take it back to the retailer you purchased it from and explain the situation. I haven't heard of this issue before, and I don't know another avenue to explore.

I will do that.

Thank you for trying to help.

I have exactly the same problem. Just installed the new monitor, set it up, and see exactly what you are seeing.

Updating a driver solved the problem for me
Dec 19, 2008 11:06AM PST

I had an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 adapter. Going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and downloading an updated driver for the Radeon solved my issue.
