Syncing T5 Freezes Desktop

Apr 20, 2005 11:05AM PDT

Hi all,

When attempting to sync my new T5 it causes my desktop to freeze (mouse & keyboard). I have to reboot every time.
I have reinstalled the Palm software, I have also done a clean install of Windows. Nothing seems to work. The error message on my Palm will vary, but it is usually something like: The connection between your device and the desktop was lost. Or cannot find the desktop. I'm using a USB connection, Windows Xp Home, ZoneAlarm Pro, Nortons SystemWorks 2003. I've tried Palm's site for Hotsync troubleshooting, but nothing helps. I have no problems syncing on my desktop at work which is running Win 2000 Pro. Is it driver related? Xp vs 2000? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

No detail on the PC.

This is a common issue if the motherboard drivers are not installed. Microsoft does not do this for us.

PC Details

Thanks for the response. This is a PC I built about 5 years ago. I know that's old for a PC, but up until now it has served its purpose quite well. It has an Asus K7V motherboard with an AMD Athlon 800 MHZ processor, 384 MB PC133 SDRAM from Crucial, and a Leaktek GeForce 256MB DDR AGP graphics card. I'm not certain which motherboard drivers you are referring to. The Via all-in-one drivers are installed. Is there something else I might have missed? If you need any other additional information please let me know, and I will be glad to supply it. Thanks again for your help.

Try another port.

But the issue is as I suspected. It's either the motherboard BIOS, drivers or the OS. Something is not patched up or is "overpatched."

What's that? Let's write that many install firewalls, privacy protectors or allow spyware on the machines.

-> There's only slivers of information in your post so I can't discern any exact cause.
