I had Symantec for years and threw the towel finally in May 2003 also due to their "lack of support".
Had a small problem with AVG 7 Profesional yesterday as one update didn't work very well - AVG's support is really great and FAST !
Poor "Tech" at the shop was being innundated with calls about new versions of Symantec products. Problems seem to be escalating out of control with the 2004 releases. After a few meetings and discussions, we decided that Symantec products are best supported by Symantec. "Tech" got a new list of software's that he can tell the caller to call the maker (web site/phone number is available.)
The point of all this is this: I will have to wait till the next trade show I go to that Symantec is attending to pin down some droid and pummel. But something has definitely mis-fired.
Some will take it that Symantec and Norton AntiVirus is some sort of sacred cow not to be disparaged, but the 2004 versions of Symantec products seem to be the worst ever.
Alternatives abound and they don't cost you:
1. The new eTrust offering from http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/index.cfm
2. The ever popular Free Avg from http://www.grisoft.com
3. And the various firewalls.

Version 2003 was not stellar:

That's a lot of unhappy. 63%Thumbs Up 37%Thumbs Down.
Version 2004's first words at http://reviews.cnet.com/Norton_AntiSpam_2004/4505-3514_7-30524437-5.html were: "Norton's lackluster support"
The 2004 user reviews at http://reviews.cnet.com/Norton_Internet_Security_2004_PRO/4852-3514_7-30524435.html are not looking good.
