That port seems to apply to plug+play.
You might want to go here and scan down to unplug plug and pray.
I've got the free version of Sygate firewall and lately I've notice an increased amount of port scans. Doesn't usually worry me, but after the last port scan my desktop icons were moved and a few programs preformed illegal operations and shut down.So I checked the traffic log report and to my surprise I found that Sygate had let the "Scanner" in via local port 5000. On testing firewall through Microsoft firewall test I find that local port 5000 was in fact open.
I use cable internet, but not through a router with Windows ME operating system.
Will a router save me from these attacks, is there something I can do with the Sygate firewall or do I buy a new firewall software?
