Swype and iPad Mini 3

My Galaxy smartphone came with Swype built in, and Swype works on it when I am not connected to the Internet (e.g., when typing memos via the memo app). I plan to buy an iPad Mini 3 and will download Swype. Will Swype work even when my iPad Mini 3 is not connected to the Internet?

Looks like an App to me.

I found nothing that states it required a connection to use.
