Switch to Thunderbird?

Apr 25, 2005 1:30PM PDT

Thinking about switching from Outlook to Thunderbird based on what I have read about enhanced security. Do people agree that Thunderbird is preferable to Outlook Express for security? (I have already changed from IE to Firefox browser for that reason.) Thanks for advice.

Yes, but the threat isn't as severe IF....

Let's say I use a great spam filter like POPFILE. Let's say I also never open any unsolicited email and I have preview turned off.

It's ok at this level of OE usage and no exploit I know gets by in the latest OE.

The only downside of Thunderbird is that people don't backup their email and such. But they often don't backup OE either so this may be a moot point.

NAV 2005 v. Popfile?
Apr 26, 2005 6:01AM PDT

Bob:
I have Norton Systemworks 2005, it has a spam filter. Is it a top notch spam filter like Popfile, or not as good? If you think it a lesser spam filter, perhaps Thunderbird would be safer?

In a nutshell.

Since Thunderbird can't execute ActiveX content and doesn't have the usual IE/OE exploits, it is safer. The issue can be if the users can live with its differences.

Another issue is if your PDA works with this email client.

I intend to use email on my home computer only minimally. Thanks very much.
