Question

Swap PC power supply

Mar 16, 2017 4:19AM PDT

Hi
I need to replace the power supply in my PC. I have an old power supply but it have different power figures written on it than the power supply I need to change. I don't know much about electrical things so I was wondering if I could have some advice on this. The Dell power unit is the new one and the hp is the one already installed. Can I swap these without damaging the PC?http://i1042.photobucket.com/albums/b423/geroido/Power_zpsyyphbvix.gif

In short, I would swap the Dell in place of the HP.

Hi
I was told that it doesn't matter that the Dell power supply has higher output that the HP one as the motherboard will use only draw the power that it requires so I won't blow anything by swapping it. Is this your understanding?

Thanks again

Right. Just like light bulbs.

The socket in a common 110V system is over 1.5 kilowatts yet a 10 Watt LED only draws 10 Watts.
