Nice write-up.
I looked at the specification on the SVP website and it has a 3.1 megapixel sensor.
Here is what they state:
OmniVision 3610 1/2" 2048x1536 CMOS.
That sensor is 3.1 megapixels.
You should only use 3.1 megapixel setting for the best quality photos.

Glad it is working for you.

Well, this isn't quite as rinky **** as I'd feared for the price. It's actually doing a really good job for me, t's supposedly 6.6 megapixels and the resolution on photos in still mode is geat- poor design, though. When in still mode, you use this silly thumb press shutter button- pressed once to put an indicator on the LCD, and again to pop the "shutter". Operation thus requires two hands- you have to hold it so tight w/one hand to push with the thumb on the same hand that about 60% of my shots come out blurred. if you can hold it still, it takes good shots. Other problem is crappy little strobe flash, 1/4 wide by 3/8 inch long that is mounted out front right where you have to wrap your hand around the thing to take still shots... and the strobe flash will deplete a set of 4 brnd-new AA Energizers in ten (!!!)- sometimes less- flash uses. Also, as with many of these super cheap asian cameras, the "oriental mind" seems to have geen given free rein in the operation/menu design. ... more concerned with keepine you ENTERTAINED (or frustrated) spinning round in circles on useless menu trees that also change the significance and operation of the five main controls with each new function than in just good old workaday yankee practicality (a la SONY)
in design. Need an english-speaking proofer for manuals, too, some of the grammar and spelling is so bad it borders on gibberish, and usually in the sentence you're after. Screw up a verb tense or two and you can make something pretty hard to figure out. Ive been experimenting with vid cams under 200, this is the best yet (the worst was Microtek's SV-200, 94 dollars at Tiger Direct with a 20 rebate I'll be quite surprised to receive at this late date- that thing was gumball machine quality) Anybody else buy this one? It was, of course, like all "SVP" stuff, sent on slow boat from Chinese slave labor to be bought in lots by junk electronics distributors/ebay hucksters. Got mine from the latter- has anyone uncovered SVP's nonexistent tech support? Anyway, this is OK for what it is, so far. Video quality pretty for MPEG, not just a soupedup "webcam in a can w/a SD card" like so many other SVP products, as far as I can tell, and does APPEAR to have 6.6 Megapixels... Oh- also- the ink silkscreened on the thing indicating functons rubs wwith a few hours of use.
