SVideo Out Into A/V Box Help

I am trying to connect my S-Video out on my laptop to an S-Video in on my A/V switch box, The problem is that the computer does not detect the tv, as the cord is not directly plugged into the tv. Someone told me to use a 75 ohm resistor, So I soldered two of them each going from ex: color to ground, the computer detects the tv and when it sends a signal the connection is cut. Any help would be great as I don't have an Svideo on the tv and would like to use my A/V box
