i followed this c|net article on how to get svchost to stop hogging the CPU. the automatic updates service is my culprit.
however, i need to stop the service every time i start my computer. i thought this CPU-hogging was a once-in-a-while thing. but nothing runs until i turn this service off.
it managed to do an update... and then it still kept hogging the CPU.
i tried manually running windows update. it took me to the update web site, and when i hit 'custom' download, it hangs on looking for updates for my computer.
is there anything i can do to teach this thing not to hog the CPU?
