Suse 9.1 YOU problem

Apr 30, 2005 6:02AM PDT

I just installed the newest updates (using Yast Online Updater) for the first time, after reinstalling Suse 9.1 Personal Edition. After I rebooted the machine, it seemed to work fine, that status messages appeared normal without any significant differences. However, when I try to login into the X server and use KDE it doesn't work. When I place a user name and password (whether it's a user or as root), the screen flashing blank, then quickly returns to the login screen. When I go to one the shell screen, the login is successful and command line entry works fine. Does anyone know what happened and how I can get my X server to log me in properly with out me having to reinstall and lose data. Thanks.

YOU problem looks like "backup"
Apr 30, 2005 6:16AM PDT

It seems the only time the backup lesson is learned is if the owner loses it all.

What is that?

In closing, I have booted KNOPPIX to carry out a backup of files the owner couldn't lose.

Thank you for commenting on my question, but you didn't help me find a solution. I know there has to be a way to fix this. I can't believe that I would have to reinstall everything.

"Suse 8,9.0,9.1,9.2 all have a rescue system on the CD/DVD. Just boot off the CD,start install, this will start YAST from there you can run a system restore. Just follow the instructions it gives you and you can't go wrong. Hope this helps."
