Suse 9.1 install

Apr 14, 2005 4:47AM PDT

I have purchased Suse Personnel 9.1 disk and wanting to install on 20.0 gb hard drive with 14.0 gb free space.

Reading instructions from PC Stats they state it is made be installed on partions on same hard drive as Windows Me without losing any data or Windows Me?

Instructions from Linux per Thyrus Enterprises states that you have to backup and have Windows Me disk as you will lose all data when partioning hard drive?

Dell Dimension l800r 800mhz 133 fsb
Windows ME
ide disk type 47 hard drive

Which if any of these statements is correct?

Thanks for the help
Ray

The truth.

If you don't backup what you can't lose, then it wil be lost. If not now, then tomorrow. I'm quite amazed how many don't know that hard disks are nothing but temporary storage.

-> I installed 8.x to 9.2 and haven't lost anything along the way. I also did NOT do anything but accept the defaults offered. Some will overanalyze, but that's their choice and time.

I usually just hit the return button for most of the install questions.

About TYPE 47. If you did not use any THIRD PARTY DISK PARTITION TOOLS (Drivemaster, Partition Magic, PartitionRedux, etc) then you should do just fine.

NO ONE will give you any guarantee it will be fine.

has always steered me right I consider it as good a guarantee as I can posssibly get.

All unreplaceable data backed-up on cd/rw but will check for updating.

No partition tools used or will be used.Forget to mention there are no partions on disk. Will this make a difference.

Return to be used as often as possible.

Thanks once again for valuable info and help

Try to use Suse's suggestions if you can. Let it do the partitioning.

Well you came through with all the answer once again.

Very easy install. I got a little nervous at the end of the partioning when it told me and error occured and to reboot and restart installation, But it went right on through the install.

Now only tweaking left to do.

Your help was greatly appreciated on the install and the recommendation on the modem.
