Surround sound issues with PC

I just bought the Logitech z506 set, and I can't get it to work properly, when I try to use 5.1, I only get sound from the two left and right speakers and the sub. The rear speakers and the center speaker only emit a very faint crackling noise. All the speakers work in stereo setup but it doesn't sound very good, and the rear speakers are so quiet it doesn't really add anything.

I've tried going to control panel > sound > configure speakers and setting them as 5.1, but it still doesn't work.

I have integrated sound, but it has all the necessary plugs for the speakers. Orange, black, and green.

I have tried changing my drivers for my sound device ("High Definition Audio Device" is the only descriptive thing it says) but they either won't install or result in a blue screen upon re-boot, this is was trying to install RealTek drivers.

Anybody have any insight to this? Do I need to buy a dedicated sound card? Help greatly appreciated.
