Question

surge protector

Jan 14, 2013 12:46AM PST

I have two APC surge protectors (Back Ups ES 350) that are approximately ten years old that need new batteries. Is it smarter to just replace the surge protectors or to just replace the batteries?

Iffy.

If said product uses Electrolytic Capacitors and the units were in use all that time you are looking at possible end of life products. This area of product life span does seem to upset some folk but you can see the life span in the graphs for the part I mentioned and you have to know a lot to read the graph. But most of the graphs give you about 5 years.

I agree with Bob, personally I'd replace them, they are over the hill. The other thing is that the batteries probably cost about the same as replacement units.
