'Super sensitive' (?) Dashboard

Jul 12, 2007 11:17PM PDT

(MAC OSX 10,4.9 Safari 2,0.4 wired Mighty Mouse)

Often when I click on a link (like to these forms), even in the drop down menus, Dashboard jumps to the screen. It takes several tries to open the links.

I have not added anything to Dashboard. I do often use "make text bigger".

I try to be careful re: the pointer.

All that I've done differently is to read about iDisk, which put the icon on my desktop. When I tried to drag that icon to the trash it said to "disconnect" I didn't. (I have to do a lot more reading re: iDisk.)

The problem worsens the longer I have pages open.

Thank you.

Try changing your settings in system preferences.

I use an iBook with track pad so I can't look at the mouse settings at this moment... consequently this is guess work on my part.

It sounds like you are inadvertently tapping a super mouse hot key function. Easy enough to do with the super mouse since it's multiple buttons are hidden by its design and construction. From what I remember when setting up a super mouse at school, the system preferences > Keyboard and Mouse settings dialog window should allow you to assign hot keys for bring up the Dash Board with the mouse. Just disable that key... unless you like the function ( i personally use the f-Keys to activate most functions like these). If so, then I'm not sure what the solution might be. Can you change the button sensitivity on a super mouse?

Hope this helps Angeline.

Pardon me... I guess it should be "mighty" mouse.

"Super" or "mighty" mouse... Either way I get a picture in my mind of a cartoon mouse character in a cape whenever I say the name.

That's exactly what is happening

You will probably find, in the System Preferences for the Mighty Mouse, that the "side squeeze" will launch Dashboard.
The tendency seems to be that in order to hold the mouse steady, at the instant of the click, the user will tighten their grip (thumb and ring/little fingers) which the Mighty Mouse recognizes as a click.

Just turn off the side squeeze buttons in that preference pane and all should be good for you.

Let us know.

I don't have a "side squeeze" to turn off, but now that I know what I was doing, it's working fine!

I will just have to remind myself to not hold the mouse in a death grip. Actually this Mighty Mouse is more comfortable than my old one, I was letting my hand rest more lightly before recently.

It's so nice to know that I hadn't messed something up. Happy

Appreciate your patience.

In the Mouse Control panel, System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse Tab, there is an option to turn off the side squeeze or to make it operate the Expos
