Question

Super agressive virus/malware. Please help

Sep 9, 2014 11:42PM PDT

My computer running Windows 7 has been infected with a very aggressive virus or malware that is preventing all removal programs from running or anything from being downloaded. I tried booting up from Bitdefenders Rescue CD and it won't load. I tried system restore and all restore points have been deleted. I desperately need help and would like to know if anyone can recommend who I can call that will work with me to try to get this fixed. Norton, Bitdefender, McAfee or someone else? Or should I try a factory reset or just replace my hard drive? Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Rescue CD won't load
Sep 9, 2014 11:50PM PDT

That's something unrelated to the virus, since it isn't yet active when the BIOS tries to boot from the disk. The common reasons:
1. BIOS not set to boot from CD.
2. Bad cd: try it on another PC to confirm.
3. Bad drive: see if cleaning the head helps. If not, try another drive (internal or external).

If you can't remove this virus your options are:
A. Clean install from factory image or disks.
B. Wipe drive or new drive and clean install from disks.
B is not better than A.

Rescue CD won't load

Thank you Kees_B. The Bios was set to boot from CD and it would do that but then it would stop. It never occurred to me that the CD was bad. I made another and it loaded and is currently performing a scan. Let's hope it works. Thanks again.

Rescue CD

I ran the Bitdefender Rescue CD and it scanned for over 7 hours and found infected and suspected items. I checked it numerous times while it was running and it seemed fine. Then suddenly all that was on the computer screen was the Bitdefender logo. No option to "resolve or remove" files. I am running the scan again, it is finding infected files again so I don't think it automatically deleted the infected files it found yesterday. What do I do when it finishes scanning if the resolve issues tab disappears again?

Use Hitman Pro free

Get your hands on HitmanPro or -64 version that your OS requires. Have a empty flash drive or it becomes erased as you install HitmanPro. Under HitmanPro using the "KICKSTART" process it will install in your flash drive. Once done, use it to boot from on your PC, under the USB port. This will load w/o the direct use of any OS boot, though it all depends. Generally, it can bypass the typical boot-up and thus check for malware, etc., and then hopefully you can recover. I found HitmanPro very handy indeed. You will need access to internet connection, just be connected as always. Do all this on another PC, laptop???
