General discussion

suggestions to which product to buy

Apr 15, 2006 10:37AM PDT

Hi. I'm a 14 year old who is interested in having a camcorder to use mainly outdoors and often at night when spending time with friends or skateboarding. I, of course, as a younger teenager don't have a large budget. I would be able to pay one thousand dollars at the extreme most. Does anyone have any suggestion as to which product to buy? Please give your advice.
Thank you.

Panasonic all the way

Trust me-I researched for months which camcorder to buy and hands down the Panasonic PVGS300 (3 ccd) camcorder is the best! It's MUCH easier to use than Sony and has a much better picture due to the three chips. The Panasonic joystick is much easier to use than banging on the touch screens of Sony. I got the camera for $650 at Circuit City. Buy it-you won't be disapointed.

I'm your age, and have been doing this kind of thing for a while. My advice is to go with either a Canon Olura (or if you can find one for under $1000 GL1, but NOT the GL2, its a delecate little b*****d),
JVC GY-DV300U IF YOU CAN FIND IT FOR A LOW PRICE, or a sony DSR-PD170 (or 150 I dont think theres alot of differance). You may have to hunt around, but if you google "[camera name goes here] suppliers", you may be very pleased.

Also, if truth be told, you should consider saving a little longer and getting some acsesories such as a deceant tripod, longer battary, lense cleaning kit and a hard case (very usefull, especialy when equiped with a lock).

Also, if you dont allready have some editing software, Adobe Premiere Elements is GREAT entry software for this kind of editing. Also, outfit your self with a good book on the subject (the "For Dummies" series is an excellant choice) and read it cover to cover a few times.

Hope my ranting didnt scare you,
Chris
