Suggestions required about a camera

Apr 21, 2005 4:34AM PDT

I have been looking for a digital camera in $300-$450 range. My requirements are simple
1. Good Image quality
2. 5-7 MP
3. 3+ opticle
4. Portable (Not 1/2 Lb)
5. Automatic (Wife needs to use it too)
6. Need to buy from Dell (I have service credit there)
7. Good Brand (Canon, Sony etc)

I looked at SD400 and W5. For both, I couldn't see any reviews. SD400 looked too small(?). W5 uses AA batteries so its useful if I go to other countries.

I haven't ruled out other cameras. Also not sure about large zoom cameras. Please advice...

What is your opinion on Sony P200. Its a small camera and a 7MP at that. Not sure if its really allows manual controls.

Sony P200
Apr 21, 2005 12:24PM PDT

The P100, 150 and 200 have been popular and sell very well.

It has a sharp lens and takes great photos in good light. The shutter lag is only 0.3 second. Very good for doing a quick shot of active children.

It does have a manual mode but not a shutter priority or aperture priority setting.

In low light situations and flash, the camera selects a slow shutter speed (1/40th of a second).
This will result in blurred photos unless you learn to hold the camera absolutely still when using it in low light or with flash. Using the manual mode to set the shutter speed higher should eliminate the problem.

Thanks SnapShot2. I am checking the P200 now and getting it really cheap at Dell.

I had Minolta Dimage 414 and a Kodak 4MP camera in the past. I didn't really learn to use the manual features on any of them. Also they were not as portable as P200 however I liked the quality on Minolta.

Have a nice day,
