Suggestions on a decent receiver???

Oct 29, 2006 3:41PM PST

I have a fairly small room and am pretty sure that a 5.1 would suffice. I really think 7.1 would be overkill. I am purchasing a 46" LCD HDTV and would like a nice surround system to go with it. I am hoping to find something with HDMI. I was following River's advice to an earlier post but the receivers that were suggested were 7.1. I really don't have the room for that. I probably will follow up with the speaker package that was suggested though.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MOST A/V AMPS DO 7.1

just set amp to 5.1. There are so many good amps out there but I have the DENON 3805 which is a great amp and has tons of useful features It does not have h.d.m.i. switching I did not care because I prefer to run all my vidio to my t.v. and amps without h.d.m.i. are much cheaper also when you run all your vidio to your t,.v. you can fine tune your t,v, to each input good luck in closing Denon also seems to keep its value steweeee

Another question.

Sorry but I am a newbie when it comes to home audio. I am sure that the JBL speakers that were recommended by River to another are great but theey are a little too bulky for me. I already have some ancient JBL D38 3 ways and am lookin for something to mount on a wall or a some smaller stands. I liked the Klipsch Quintet III series but read from more than one person that it's hard to match a sub with them. So now am curious about the Quintet II series with the sub included. Any other sets that anyone knows, please leave your input.
Also Stewie, I'm not sure what you meant by running all video to the TV to "Fine Tune." all your inputs??? Could you explain that some more please. I'm such a nube. Actually, I'm lazy and HDMI and one cable sounds great to me but if I can get better performance doing it another way then that's what I want.
Thanks all! With all your support I'll get through this.
