Suggestions for Surge Protection?

I just bought the Panasonic 42" Plasma so I'm trying to decide on a good surge protector for it. I've heard some horror stories about the Monster Cable protectors via the customer reviews at and I'd hate to shell out $100+ for nothing. Also, do the battery backup UPS's provide surge protection? Anyone know of any good one's to get that they know work well? Thanks.

It's been a can of worms argument with claims of results being psychosomatic & whatever. We have some very knowledgable posters who come down on the side of saying line conditioners are nonsense.

What consensus of opinion there is says basic surge protection is essential & battery backup if you have a DLP lamp to protect by letting it's cooling fan run when a power outage occurs. Your plasma doesn't have the expensive lamp of DLPs.

Surge protection & battery backup are 2 separate issues. Don't expect to find just one answer.
