Suggestions for phones w/o Data plan/Ability to read PDF's.

Well I have the same issue I have since last year. The ability to read pdf's and not have the need to get a Kindle or a Sony Reader or heft my laptop all around with me. So I am looking at getting a smartphone again.

Previously I got burnt out by a Verizon XV6700, because of the dataplan. My carrier is Verizon...so I want to know if there is any way that I can purchase a cellphone off the internet, and use it with Verizon as a basic cell phone and still have the capabilities of a Smartphone.. I was looking at the Palm Treo 755, but wonder if there is another option.
