More basic than this, you die...

Mirage 2 is a kind of integrated graphics chipset like the Intel GMA 950, really poor for gaming or any other graphically intensive task but good for workers.

The processor is really for basic task like e-mail and surfing on the Internet. Don't try to do anything intensive with this ...

Hard-drive is slow : 4200 RPM but again it's fine for a basic utilisation.

DDR SDRAM : Old DDR technolgy.

In summary : a good basic system for a very basic utilisation. Don't hope to install Windows Vista AERO Glass Interface on it ! And I take Vista will be very slow in this system ...

Check out hp you get a computer with a warranty for around this price which basically has everything your looking at from your post anyways look at the HP V5000Z it basically has everything your selected plus allows custimization so you can upgrade your graphics card slightly for I think 25 bucks and it starts at 450 in price for a brand new computer.

HP dv2000t line.

Dell Inspiron E1405.

HP dv1000t line.

All these models has the last Intel GMA 950 like graphics solution. I'm not a fan of integrated chipset but for your use this can be a nice value choice. Sure, the Intel chip are better than the integrated chip on the ACER.

For the optical drive : yes

For the GPU : Never

The GPU isn't upgradable because it is an integrated chipset on the motherboad. Even if it is a dedicated GPU like the Mobility Radeon X1400, it is not upgradable. The cooling system and the size of the case isn't appropriated.

Look at the Dell Inspiron 6400 / E1505 or hte Pavilion dv5000t with the nVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 of HP. But the ATi X1400 delivers better performances than the nVIDIA chip.
