Suggestion: Better, more visible, current message

Nov 9, 2004 9:55AM PST

Just a small nit-pick, but I think an improvement...

When looking over a message thread, you will see the list of the connected messages. The one that you are on is in black text (at least it is with my browser and setup).
With just a few messages in a thread, finding out which one I am on, it is pretty easy.
But sometimes, when the threads get pretty large, with 20, 40, 60 even 100 connected messages, it gets pretty difficult in finding the one message I am on.

So, my request is: is there anyway that you can highlight, or make more noticeable, which current message of a thread the reader is on at the moment?

Would a different color do? Like Red?

How about an Arrow --> (otherwise, Red would work)
Nov 10, 2004 8:16AM PST

I was sort of hoping for an "arrow" to point out the current message. Sort of a "You are here" arrow.

But, yeah, red would work.

As it is now, with my browser and setup, (and I forgot to add this to my initial message) the other message header text is dark blue, and that is not really noticeably different from the Black of the current message.

Light blue, green, red, anything but black.

I have the same colors as you Chuck and I think that your idea of an arrow is a great idea if that is possible.

On my computer, there is a disinct difference in the blue and the black text. But, I can see how that might not be true for everyone ... depending on monitor and color settings.

Red text would surely make it easy to tell where you are on the tree list ... provided it is not a dark red.

There is a distinct difference in the blue and the black text and it is no problem for me. However, an arrow for the color blind, and/or red may satisfy some.

I will ask for the red text... it may take a while

though...

Thanks for the feedback all.

Most of the color blind
Nov 16, 2004 8:06AM PST

people, such as this writer are red, green, brown color blind . The red will still be great as long as it isn't used with brown or green.

As an example, I don't have the slightest idea what color the M for moderator is, but see it well the way it is used.

And again thanx for all of your efforts for improving the forums within a small budget.

The "M" is red Ray and

the color blind issue would be another good reason for an arrow like Chuck suggested if that is all possible Lee.

I didn't want to push for

an arrow, although I think that would be the best. I have a little idea of how difficult it is financially for Lee Koos to get things added.

(NT) (NT) Or perhaps turn it to UPPERCASE?

Re: turn it to UPPERCASE? --- NO! NO! NO!
Nov 17, 2004 4:24AM PST

Changing the subject line to UPPERCASE can sometimes hide, mask, or in some way change the meaning, or the intent, of the orginal, as posted, subject line.

If you are the one responsible for the change to white on green background, I do have to tell you it does not work for me ar all.

It is probably something on my end, but it ends up being white on white, and the only way I can read it is right click and select all so I can see it.

I am using Netscape 7.2 as my reader for both browsing and mail. I am considering a change to firefox since I've heard a lot good about it.

UPDATE, this change will take place on Thurs. 12/9/04

Red text will highlight the post being read in the discussion tree.

Thanks everyone.

HEY, the RED font on the current message works! Thanks!!!
Dec 15, 2004 1:06AM PST

I didn't know this was in place, until today. I was read a message and I saw the red font. At first, I wondered "how did that peson turn the color on? Maybe something like this is a color command ??

But then after I responded to that message (nothing about the color) I then saw my response being RED and the first response was now BLUE.

COOL! Thanks again. Does the job!
