Suggest some uses for an old laptop

Jan 19, 2005 1:13PM PST

I've inherited an old Acer Pentium I (800Mhz) laptop and I'm trying to figure out what to do with this thing.

Can anybody recommend some uses for an old laptop besides word processing and playing minesweeper? Wink

such a machine does have some uses as i've seem many machines used with kids and small home / office machines just for basic storage...

other small games are good to, sim tower, road rash and otehr basic games will work good

also if you set it up and formatted and follow a tutorial to get the most out of the machine you can have a decent little laptop...

Small world.

My Acer P3-600 lives on (a ter-600). I found a DVD/CDRW drive from compgeeks.com and that added a DVD player and upped the CDRW from 2X to 24X. I also replaced the old 11GB hard disk in the unit (a slow 4200 RPM) with a 5400 RPM 40 GB drive. Much less than 200 for both and the laptop can now play a DVD and boots in less than 1/2 the time.

I did this since for my work (some Palm and VB programming) the unit does OK for that when I need to travel to the site for demos.

Oh, I also picked up an under 10 buck 802.11b card and that's been very nice on travel.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
