What about safe mode?
by Steven Haninger / September 17, 2011 7:09 PM PDT

Will it load properly to that point? Once the desktop appears there are still some services and maybe startup programs loading. We start with safe mode and then add the additional items until we find a culprit. It can be a laborious process. There is also the possibility of a hardware or driver failure. I presume you've already tried system restore and last known good. I did just take in an old Fujitsu laptop with a similar issue but it never made it to the desktop. The final diagnosis turned up a failed hard drive. Replacing the drive and restoring a saved image to it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes, have tried last known good. I probably tried restore, but not sure. I'll try that in safe mode.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
