Question

Strong Signal Cuts Out Every Few Seconds

Sep 28, 2013 9:35AM PDT

I'm using a Samsung Mantra (SPH-M340). Virgin Mobile is the provider.

I can call anywhere and the person I'm speaking to has no trouble
hearing every word I say. Signal strength is always 3-to-5 bars.

About half the calls have a problem on my end. The signal briefly cuts
out. I'm constantly asking people to repeat what they just said. No one
understands why I'm having trouble hearing all their words, because they
here my voice perfectly.

Virgin Mobile has "reset" my phone a few times. It doesn't help. The
problem occurs about 50% of time. It seems logical that a defective
phone would experience signal loss more than 50% of the time.

The antenna in the Mantra is below the battery, in the bottom half of the
phone. I'm always careful to keep my hand away from the antenna.

Would upgrading to a smartphone resolve the problem? A better internal
amplifier and antenna might be the solution.

Answer
Could be the phone or location.

My home seems to have spotty reception on more than 2 VM phones but a block away it's OK.

Changing phones does not cure this for me, changing carriers does however for my overall needs I can stay with VM.
