Streaming sports matches on MacBook?

May 7, 2008 10:48PM PDT

Hi, I'm interested in buying a MacBook with BootCamp on it, so I can install Windows Vista on it along with Leopard. I'm interested in watching soccer on my laptop, but I know the software required for streaming soccer matches (or any sport, really) doesn't work on Leopard. I was wondering whether I would be able to stream matches if I install Windows on my future MacBook?

And I've never used a Mac before, so excuse me if this sounds like a silly question too but does the working of any software depend on the operating system or the actual Mac?

How do you "know"?

that the software required for streaming soccer matches (or any sport,) doesn't work on a Mac?
software required for streaming soccer matches (or any sport, really) doesn't work on Leopard.

What software would that be?

What sites, specifically, are you referring to?

Did "They" tell you that it would not work?

All MacBooks have BootCamp and the ability to run Windows. Sad

The Operating System decides what sort of software you can use on your computer. You cannot use Mac software on a Windows box but you can use software written by Apple. (iTunes, Safari)
Conversely, you cannot use windows software on a Mac unless you are also running Windows on your Mac, via BootCamp or virtualization.

Friends told me.

I have friends who have MacBooks and they have all told me that the software (TVAnts, Sopcast etc) does not work on Leopard.

Thank you Happy

And I haven't streamed matches in a while, but I think myp2p.eu is one site.

P2P in a sites name does not inspire confidence.

You are correct, the software they require you to use is not available for OS X.

However, it does not make economical sense to buy a Mac just to install Vista on it, to watch football.

If you get the Mac, you will still need a legal copy of Vista, and all the usual AV software installed on it.

Why not just buy a cheap Vista box to watch the match?

Already have Vista.

I already have a legal copy of Windows Vista.

I just wanted to know whether I'd be able to stream using the software that I mentioned, if I installed Windows on my MacBook.

What about parallels?

If I install Parallels on my MacBook and use Windows, will I be able to stream matches using the same software I specified above (Sopcast etc)? I'm just curious.

Thanks Happy
