I'd go get an Intel NUC and use that as my player (that's my solution here.) As to the NAS I can plug the drive into the router but this may try folk's patience as the speed is a fraction of the connected to the PC speed.
Hi i have my laptop in the office, a TV in the lounge and another TV in the bedroom. I download movies to a 2TB HDD which only has a USB connection, and it's very annoying having move it from room to room to watch a movie in bed or the lounge or transfer files from the laptop in the office! Can someone please recommend the best/potential options to access movies from my HDD on my TVs through the network via the USB? I have data points in all rooms plus both TVs are smart TVs and have integrated media players to play a movie direct from the USB. My current router does not have a USB port but even the ones that do, I'm thinking it will still not work with the TV as i think the routers with storage may only work with laptops and desktops, not TVs? I've read about NAS, would this work with TVs? Also i read about WD My Cloud but it says the streaming videos function is really slow, and I'm not even sure that works with TVs or if it only works with laptops/desktops! Can someone please help!
