Question

Streaming Media Suddenly Ceased to Work

Feb 6, 2014 4:58AM PST

I have an LG 42LN578V Smart television.

I have it set up so that the Plex software enables me to stream movies from my computer to the television via a wired connection.

Everything was working OK until yesterday evening when the connection between my computer and the TV failed.

Since then I've had a phone call with LG who advised me to do a factory reset; this didn't solve the problem.

What I did find rather odd is that earlier today the connection came back up, lasted for about 10 minutes and then went down again.

This problem is driving me mad with rage as it's the reason I purchased the television.

I've made sure that my anti virus application (Kaspersky) isn't blocking the connection (if it was it wouldn't have worked up till last night) and even turned the Fire Wall off but still no connection.

I'm at a total loss what to do next; it's really gotten to me!

Have you got any ideas about what I should do next?

Answer
There are a lot of open issues here.

From LG's issue of snooping (http://bgr.com/2013/11/20/lg-smart-tv-spying/ ) to updates that could happen without notice and all the encoding discussions (which I will not go into deeply.)

The only issue I read here is the connection from TV to computer failed. That's often a network issue and not one for LG to solve but since this is LG all bets are off if they did something. Search for clues on that.

What I've just discovered is that although the TV has ceased seeing my computer the home cinema system can see my computer and allows me to stream videos.

So strange that the TV can't see my computer but the home cinema can. That would imply that there's nothing wrong with the connection and (as far as I can tell) it's a problem with the television.

Or am I wrong on that count?

I would not disagree.

However there are many moving parts. Without moving off wireless and onto a switched hub and going over every detail why not call it their fault? We know LG, so far seems to be non-responsive to their peeping issue.
