streaming iTunes music

Can someone help me out please?
I have a Russound Sphere audio/video home distribution system in my home. I have an iPod dock which a source in the Sphere system. The Sphere wall plate has a click wheel and functions somewhat like an iPod but it takes forever to go through the iTunes library with the Sphere system so this is very inefficient.
I want an easier way to browse thru my iTunes library and play any song directly through the Sphere system.
I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro. What would be the best way to bridge the Mac to my Russound AV system? I want to be able to go through my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro, choose a song and have it play through my Sphere system effortlessly. I heard bad things about the Airport express so I don't want to go that way. Can I use the Apple TV to do this as a bridge or is there an easier way?

Thank you
