Streaming audio question.

I have a sizeable music collection which I an im the process of ripping to mp3 files. Depending on the ripping technique used and bitrate chosen, this will wind up about 200 GB or so. My intent is to have this audio archive be on a large USB 2.0 drive.

I would like to listen to my music while out in my woodworking studio. It would be ideal if there were audio gear that I could plug the USB drive into and could then access and play its content. A small bookshelf system say (not a portable MP3 player - as nothing exists that can hold 200+ GB), AM/FM, and USB in. Thus far in my research I not run across any audio component that has this capability. Does such gear exist?

If not what options exist? Again, all I am after is to have playback access to my music archive from a remote location.

A laptop will work, an Ipod will work.

I have a small MP3 player that uses flash drives, a 2gb flash drive will hold a lot of music takes about 7~8 hours to play them all. I load it up and play, when I get tired of the songs I reload the flash drive with new ones. Cost would be under $100 for this. john

How about wireless?

In reply to: Streaming audio question.

I'm sure a PC has a similar setup to my lowly Mac, but I use iTunes played from my computer wirelessly to a remote Apple Airport Express antenna which is connected to a cheap Radio Shack amp with speakers in my garage. I don't have an internal 200GB HD, but my iTunes library has about 40 hours of music in it. You could do the same with a PC, but I'm just not sure of the programs and wireless cards you would need. You would simply need a wireless card in your computer, a wireless receiver antenna hooked to a simple receiver or amp, and of course the software to do this.
