Stream video to TV while still using laptop

by kappgnogr / September 29, 2012 5:03 AM PDT

I know several ways to connect my laptop to my TV in order to view movies, TV, and other content on my TV from my laptop. All of these ways basically work by treating the TV as a second monitor.

Is there ANY where where I could stream a movie/video/netflix/etc to my TV while continuing to use the other programs/functions of my laptop?

In other words, can I watch TV while I do my homework?

What is the stream streaming to?

And didn't VLC Player support picking which display to show on?

TV

For example, Right now I have CBS sports open in my browser getting ready to watch the Georgia/Tennessee game. Using the HDMI cable to plug directly into my TV.

I can select which display to show on; TV, Laptop, or Both.....but again, that shows everything that is on my screen...so if I open another program, or another browser window, THAT shows on the TV as well. I would like for one browser window to continue to display on the TV while another browser window displays on my laptop monitor.

I am currently solving the issue by hooking up a second laptop JUST to run the TV so I dont miss anything in the game, and doing my homework from my main laptop. I was just wondering if there was a way to do it all from just one laptop.

So you have the display set to MIRROR mode.

Why didn't you try the other "extend my desktop" mode?
