Strange sound problem on Dimension C521

Feb 14, 2010 3:23AM PST

I have a Dell Dimension C521 running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. 2GB Ram with a Sigma Tel Audio card. When I purchased the system I used my old speakers from a previous Dell computer and it worked fine. A couple of months ago I started losing sound in my left speaker..it acted like a short in the speaker. I replaced the speakers with some from Wal-Mart. It has gotten worse; now the sound will suddenly cut out and will only work if either I turn the speakers off (which doesn't always work) or jiggle the knob on the speaker until I hear sound again.

Sorry the long post but I don't know what's wrong. I've tried updating drivers and running the Microsoft Fix-it thing from Microsoft support but it says it can't fix it.

Thanks for the assistance.

Well it's not as expensive as I thought it would be. Thanks.
