strange screen at startup

when restarting a black and white screen with the option to pick a,b,or c something. It doesn't appear for very long but it's never been there before and i don't want it. I can read the words choose Windows XP or something else. It's not a big problem but a little irratating

that seems to be a lot to do to get rid of a screen that flashes up for a couple of seconds....
