Strange Picture Problem With Samsung HLR5067w

Hi, This is my first post on this forum. I'm having a strange problem that started a couple of weeks ago. We started seeing horizontal bands of color across the screen. They were approx. 1/8 the height of the screen and would alternate between blue, green, and red. Sometimes there would be multiple bands of varying colors and sometimes they would mix together. But they weren't just color bands overlaying the picture. It was as if the image in the bands had an effect that made everything look like a photo negative but with the occurring colors. Then they started to merge and pretty soon, the whole screen would look like a photo negative but with multiple colors. It would sometimes go away, other times the severity of the distortion would vary. Now, it seems that the effect is occurring almost constantly and usually to a very severe degree where the picture is very hard to see. Every once and awhile however, the picture will totally clear up for a very short while then revert back to the problem, It's really strange and I can't find anything on this anywhere. Anyone have any ideas based on this hard to describe problem? Thanks much.

I'm no tech expert on this stuff by any means but I'm was thinking color wheel also. But unfortunately, it's been out of warranty for about 5 months. I think i am going to have to call Samsung though. Maybe they'll show some mercy on me.. Thanks

garfield, from a Sammy owner - don't expect miracles

though Samsung did help me after persistence on my part. It seems that company (like some others) likes to throw them together cheaply.

Just after the 1 year warranty (& I wasn't offered extended warranty by dealer or Sammy) I had 2 repairs within 2 months. The authorized repair centers repairs have a 90 day warranty. So i e-mailed customer service with some details. The response was e-mail to call their customer service. After 2 calls I got referred to another phone number to executive customer service. They told me to send description & receipts. Had to follow up more than once. The department supervisor had to authorize. The stuff was lost in some in basket. Persistence again. Another call & re-submission. Follow up calls. Finally, on a good day the supervisor authorized a check for 50% of my repair costs.

In the long run Sammy helped me. The DLP, when worked on twice actually got attention to detail & good quality parts installed. Unfortunately my opinion is that it took the repair attention to make it what it should have been in the 1st place.

Best of luck, though it will cost you some bucks also.
