Strange goings on!

Jul 9, 2007 6:07AM PDT

2 bizarre things have happened on my G5 imac lately.

First, Microsoft Word launches on start-up, how did this happen, and how can i stop it.

Secondly - I use an external audio interface and most sound is routed out to my stereo, however various sounds pipe through my internal speakers (such as audio notifications on Entourage and YouTube vids in Safari, but not quicktime feeds) really loud - regardless of the volume being turned down on the screen.

I can't figure it out, something to do with some subset of "microsoft" settings i can't find?

Check your "Startup Items"

in the accounts pane of system preferences.
Word may have sneaked in there.
Also, check ALL the preferences within Word to see if there is anything there that would cause it to launch on startup.
Could it be anything to do with Entourage wanting to check mail as soon as the machine boots up?

on the audio issue

If your external audio interface is via USB rather than the built-in headphone jack, it is possible to select either the built-in speakers or the external audio device. I have an older Onkyo USB external audio box...

Does anyone else have access to your computer? Is it password protected (at login)?

Thanks for the accounts tip - that's got rid of Word!
But as for audio, i think it goes deeper. I'm having perfect control of my USB output for all sound from DVD, embedded sounds, music programs such as QBase and Pro-Tools etc etc... it is only Youtube and Entourage which seems to hijack my internal speakers at full volume... What's that about?
