strange feedback/interference/noise with new LN-46A850 LCD T

Mar 6, 2009 5:03PM PST

Hello all, first post here. I just recieved my new LN-46A850, replacing an LN-T4671. The picture on the new set is amazing. is comparable to Blu-Ray now with Dish HD signal. Auto motion seems cured.
ISSUES: 1. IR Remote interference. I read other posts concerning this, my Dishnetwork remote works fine, except it needs a few minutes to wake up. First day/initial fireup no problems. Next morning I got up, could not switch channels until 3-5 minutes, then remote works fine. Tech support has agreed to schedule a service call to replace the board, but unless the condition is going to degenerate, is hardly worth the trouble. Watcha'll think?
2. Noise, popping from set speakers with volume off. This only occurs when my Blu-ray player switches itself (default mumbo) to 1080i, or with a PS3 game that is not 1080P. The BR player I can manually switch to 1080P and make it stop. The PS3, haven't been able to switch, but the only game that acts up is GTA, a 720P game. Both players are HDMI to Pioneer reciever, then to HDMI 3 on set. My dishbox is to HDMI 1 on set, then optical to reciever so I can watch TV without full surround sound on. Noise coming from set speakers, with set speakers off, is loud, crackle and pop, sounds disturbing. Hook-up issue or TV set problem?
Thanks in advance, dwp

strange feedback/interference/noise with new LN-46A850 LCD T

dwpatterson,

Issue 1: I would get the board replaced. That way, you won't have to worry about the unit after the warranty has expired. Again, it's up to you, but the option is there for the term of your warranty. After that, I'm not sure what happens.

Issue 2: I'm going to have to check into this. I'm assuming you have the latest firmware for the television (confirmation would be great), but it may be happening through the receiver. Hook the unit directly up to the television to see if you get the same symptom. It may be best to run optical from the offending stations HDMI-to-TV, then audio optical-to-optical.

Keep me posted!

the board have anything to do with picture quality?

Thanks for your response HDT, thought maybe you got the weekend off....(lol)
So is it absolutely true that the board modification to fix the IR/remote control issue will have no effect on picture quality? Or furthermore, is there any chance that the board mod will affect the picture settings at all? I don't want to take a chance on giving up any color, clarity, speed, etc. I just got the 46A850 as a replacement for the LN-T4671, and the improvement is a amazing.
I see my service order is logged on line, but the local company who was supposed to be in touch by 3/06 failed to do so. I'm hoping for some assurance via items mentioned above before I pursue.....
On the noise issue, I haven't tried swapping any cables around yet. The info on the set is Module T-SPHAUSC-1005.0 2008-10-06.
MICOM SPHAUSC-1003. Any of that got to do with firmware? Date on the set when I recorded the serial # on line is 1/2009.
The dishbox is HDMI cable direct to set. I can switch from 1080i to 720P, does not create the noise issue, reciever on or off.
Easy remedy is to switch the onboard speakers off when using the reciever. When switched to external speaker, there is no noise. Is just strange that the noise occurs at all, with volume down, any time the source through the reciever on the HDMI is not 1080P.
thanks again, dwp

dwpatterson,

Welcome to the forum! (forgot to say that the first time!)

Okay, from what I've seen - and I've seen several of the issues here on this forum is that all-except-one notes any picture difference whatsoever. So with that one hanging in the balance, I can't say for certainty what you'll see. But most people have been positive regarding both the PQ (picture quality) as well as the IR issue being resolved.

The 1005.0 would be your firmware in that equation above, and I forgot that we pulled a version of the firmware off of the website. I'm still waiting to hear back on why, but I suspect a new one will be forthcoming eventually.

I'm not sure what's causing the speakers to broadcast anything - sound or pops - if the volume is down. That does sound like a service issue. If you do decide to go with the IR fix, you might bring that up with 800-SAMSUNG and have them address that issue as well. That's not considered normal; but could be related to the HDMI cable/console if it's only limited to that.

Let me know if I can help further. We're here. (this week my responses will be a little limited to my meetings schedule, but I'll be checking in, so hang tight - I won't forget you!)
