Question

Storage Drives and file movement

Mar 22, 2016 5:20PM PDT

When moving Library Files and certain Users files to D:\ storage drive, Can Documents, Library, Pictures, and Video Folders be moved and combined to 1 main folder, with same location path? Or do they have to have different location paths and create 2 sub Documents folders under 1 main Document folder?

Back in I believe Windows 7 Microsoft

added libraries. What this did was allowed you to link folders together into like libraries. Example you could store picture in multiple folders in 1 Pictures library. So you could see files from all the folders that are part of the library. So a library provides a place to centrally locate different files eventhough they are actually stored in separate folders.

Better explanation

Libaries are way to link files from separate folder into one area that can be search easily. So you just have to go to the main say Pictures library and click on the picture and it will link to that picture no matter what folder it's in.

Moving User Profiles to D:\storage drive
Mar 23, 2016 12:43PM PDT

Thanks for replies,
Microsoft has a write up in their Technet forum about moving User Profile files to D:\storage drives. My understanding of what they are saying is if Updates or Fixes are needed putting the folders under D:\Name location together would cause problems. The folders have to be D:\Name and D:\Users\Name. They can be put in a created folder in D:\ and you will have 2 of Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos in created folder.

Thanks, John
