Question

Stop IE From Moving Tab Position

by BigC23 / June 22, 2011 5:00 AM PDT

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell IE8 not to move the position of tabs? I have to use it quite often for work but a lot of the time if I enter a new URL in a tab that is not to the left IE will automatically move it to the far right. It's not a big deal but just mildly annoying. I usually just grab it and move it back to where it was originally.

I'm thinking that's hard-wired into the code

But there are workarounds.

You an 'drag' tabs to where you want them, or, if you keep an empty tab next to the open tab window, then you can drag the link to the open tab itself and it will open the link.

Not entirely suitable I know, but it may be useful.

Stop IE From Moving Tab Position - New!

Why use tabbing which caused me so many headaches until I stopped using them! However if you do, you cannot right-click and select Tabbing any more which remains an option in the right-click menus. For instance, if you click Tools, Internet Options, Settings under Tabs you have the option to turn tabbing off. Next you will need to stop IE8 from consolidating open web sites so that each one gets listed on the Taskbar individually. Download and use "Taskbar Repair."

I was sort of assuming there wasn't a lot I could do about it. I just thought I'd ask. Thanks for the input MarkFlax. Cursorcowboy I have no real intention of getting rid of tabbing as it works just fine for me aside from this mild annoyance. I'm sure that download is real swell though thanks a lot.
