Stop error message

Mar 28, 2011 1:21AM PDT

I have a Dell Vostro 1500. I have been have connectivity problem with it. And I have been getting help elsewhere on CNET. But now this is something new. When I was trying to turn on the laptop I get a blue screen stating.

" A problem has been detected and windows have been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.

Disable or uninstall any anti virus, disk defragmination or backup utilities. check your hard drive configuration. And check for any updated driver. Run CHDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and restart your computer.
Technical error.
STOP 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x871162b8, 0xc0000102, 0x0000000)"

The problem is I cannot even get back on the computer to do any of these things. It will not let me even go into the safe mode. I just get this screen after the Windows screen comes on. I will appriciate any help.

If You Can't Boot To Safe Mode or "Normal" Windows...

...Assuming you're using Windows XP which you haven't told us, then your best bet is to perform a "repair" install using the Windows XP installation CD. There are no guarantees regarding your personal files, (hopefully you have backups) but a "repair" install "should" reinstall all the operating system software but save your personal documents. Follow the instructions below to perform the repair installation.:

Hope this helps.

Yes it is XP. Sorry I did not mention that. Now I do not have the Windows XP instalation disc for my Dell but I believe I have it for one of my older HP's. Can I still use that one? And thanks for the 411

..since you've now moved on to network/wireless related issues, I'll let your discussion continue there with Kees.. Still, after an operating system repair, it's quite common to need driver reinstalls.. I'll guess that's your problem here. If you've got the Dell "Resource CD", it should have all the drivers for your computer.. Reinstall them all, including the wireless adapter driver.

Hope this helps.
