Dell for instance looks for the Service Tag. If someone is unlucky, dumb enough to ask for repair on it, Dell might give them free shipping to fix it.

Reporting A Stolen System
Apr 17, 2012 8:36AM PDT

Hi, my name is Lorna, and I work for Dell. I regret to hear that the system was stolen. There are procedures for reporting stolen systems. First, call Dell Order Support 1-800-624-9897. They will provide the Service Tag and the Express Service Code for the System once they have received correct ownership information. Second, file a case with the police, providing them with the system information. Then, go to the Dell support site http://support.dell.com or contact us to fill out the Stolen System Form so that we can place the system's Service Tag on hold. They will note the system as "stolen" and gather any information received by anyone trying to get support for the system and furnish that information to the police. Please be advised, the owner is still responsible for making payments on the system. There may be some recourse through the homeowners/renters insurance policy for the system loss.
Thanks,

follow these steps and you should be ok,

first off the delivery was shipped to the wrong address
so once this is verified you will not be responsible for the charges
also
a police report, so you can protect yourself

then call dell tell them whats going on
i guarantee they will be able to track and locate the computer
remember the computer conpanies have far more access then people think they have

sorry for your ordeal

in any event once you get youre new computer you can download certain software that can track the thief
as well as see whos been on youre computer and what they have been doing while on your computer
in stealth mode
