Stimulus package ... from the web ...

by Bill Osler / January 29, 2009 8:44 AM PST

This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set or a new computer, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.

That sums it up nicely...

especially the "shut up" part.

I've heard it described as taking buckets of water from one side of a lake, carrying the buckets to the other side then dumping them back in. Lots of activity and movement but the water level of the lake doesn't change.

What's needed is new jobs and new product creation and government "stimulus" can't do that. It is good for paying off special interests and getting votes though.
