Still using Internet Explorer

Jun 16, 2005 11:48PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone out there is still using Internet Explorer. I have used Firefox since I first heard of it and tried it out. I still remember the days of Phoenix and the shortly lived Firebird. I enjoy all of the security and features of Firefox and I know there are other alternative browsers out there (like Opera and MyIE2 which changed their name recently to Maxthon). I know the people who read these forums range from those who should be commended for wanting to learn better computing practices to people who have forgotten more about computers than some of us can hope to ever learn. So I would basically like to know if any of these users are still using IE, for what reason, and what tools (if any) have kept you using IE and not using another browser.

IE

Firefox & Thunderbird are cross-platform, making it easy to exchange Bookmarks between Win & Linux. Tabbed browsing is another reason to consider Firefox.

IE is set as default by Windows to download MS updates, therefore it needs to be left on the machine.

My biggest reason for using Firefox; it ain't Microsoft.

Old habits die hard

Actually, I like IE, but then I also liked Netscape and FireFox. I'm not too picky about the browser as long as it let's me do what I want to do - play Pogo.com, read the news, and do simple research.

At work, of course, we're stuck with a corporate developed version of IE.

IE. . .

For reasons I have listed here at the forums on many occasions. If you practice safe surfing, keep MS updated, and run a firewall and the Anti-Parasite Suite (at my site below), all is well.

I have Firefox and Mozilla installed, but only for checking my web site access.

Don't get too complacent with Moz and FF. They have holes too.

Good luck,

use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

IE and Firefox

Firefox is preferable in every way to ie. But Microsoft still releases patches, and it might possibly become a secure application eventually. At the current time all I use it for is updates. I don't use Outlook Express either.

Avant Browser rules !!!!
Jun 18, 2005 6:08AM PDT

Hi all ,

Well, since a long while I'm using Avant Browser.
Although it's IE based , it's much faster and has much more features aboard then any other browser I have used.

IMHO opinion , Avant Browser is the best browser I have seen.

It also has ''tabbed browsing'' aboard , a cool feature.

IE is about as good and safe as any...

It's not the weapon, but the person taking aim that hits or misses.

I agree that IE can be very safe. It is up to the user to take the precautions. Get every security update, run a realtime virus scanner as well as real time adware scanner(s). Don't click on anything that wants to install unless you are sure you want it and to just use good common sense. All that is easy for intermediate and power users but for the common user who may not be as well versed in computers and doesn't really want to go to all that trouble it is better to get a browser that is more secure on its own.

I wonder how many leave the front door unlocked at night.Silly

Though I learn something new everytime I turn around (if i could just remember it all) it seems that those simple practices usually keep me out of harms way.

And as other browsers gain in popularity they tend to run into security and functional problems as well.

One thing is always certain. Time gets us all.
