Still Confused

Mar 17, 2005 4:54AM PST

I just finished reading everyone's response and I'm still confused. I have been looking into Optimum Online vs. Verizon DSL. My main concern is speed. Before my Desktop purchase I was using my job laptop and using a Sprint Dialer & IE to access the Internet. Unbelievably slooooow. I'm not sure what the difference between the two, but would like some clarification.
As far as internet access I know many people who have been using Firefox. Why is this the chosen one? Currently, I have an aol, gmail, and hotmail e-mail address. I'm ridding myself of the aol address and will continue to use the gmail and hotmail accounts.
So, this is what I'm looking for....basic information from begining to end on how to set up my computer for Internet access. Also, what's the best protection from Virus,Spyware, etc.... HELP!!!

your chosen provider will give you all information (and possibly a modem) to connect. The setup is different between providers, so there is no general recipe to be given.

They supplied the Wifi/Modem/Router, setup CD, printed instructions and the ADSL FILTERS.

TIP!! Ask for all the filters you will need. They run about 15 bucks each (or more) at the stores and you can save yourself a bit by getting the right number PLUS one for free.

There was no charge for the wifi/modoem/router and such.

Since they answer all those other questions, I'll leave you with that tip.
