Question

Stereo receiver won't play CDs

Jun 20, 2018 9:25PM PDT

I just got a SONY stereo receiver (model # STR-DH190), and hooked up my 10-12 year old 5-disc player (model # CDP-CE375). The receiver plays FM radio just fine. I also connected an iPod and it works fine with that. But when I try to play a CD, the receiver goes into PROTECT mode and shuts down. Any idea why it works as an FM tuner and plays the signal from the iPod, but won't work with the disc player? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please provide all connection types currently being used. E.g. digital optical cable from cd changer to receiver, etc. Be verbose.

It's embarrassing, but I don't know what the cables I used are called. They are the kind with two prongs on each end, one red (pos) and one white (neg). Sorry I can't be more specific,

Answer
Sony seems to note this is an issue for speakers.

Issue for speakers?

Well, what I don't understand is this: if the problem is in the speakers or speaker wires, why does it play FM radio trouble free and also input from an iPod.

Sorry to hear that the test can't be done.

I noted Sony's own page and asked if you could try a thing. I understand folk sometimes are put off by such and hope you find your answer soon.

As to connections, you need to tell more. What speakers are used etc.
