You should research ALL software that starts on your machine to keep the bad stuff off it.

Hi, I am running ME and when I start up I get a message that says:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STCLOADER .EXE file appears to be corrupt. Please reinstall and try again.
Everything seems to be OK but should I reinstall?
Where can I get STCLOADER .EXE to reinstall?
Thanks.-Tony

Hi, I ran McAffee and it shows 2 ?possibly unwanted programs?
C:\WINDOWS\BI.DLL connected to ADWARE AND BETTERINET
and
C:\_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS76.CAB connected to IPSENTRY, PROCKILL.term
I don?t show any SCTLOAD in the scan, but I did follow your advice and looked at goggle to find "pestpatrol" and freescratchcards. I sent SCTLOAD to my recycle bin to see if anything really bad would happen before I permanently delete it.
Any thought on how to get rid of the unwanted programs I do have in restore and BI.dll. The restore ones say they are "write protected" and cannot be deleted. the BI.dll says it cannot be deleted or cleaned. This happened last month and I was allowed to quanantine it. What happens to a file that is quarantined? Do I want to quarantine something in restore?
Thanks.-Tony
I listed the 5 easy to use scanners and removers at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 but need to add how to delete a file in C:\_Restore.
FIRST! You don't need to remove that file. Unless you use SYSTEM RESTORE, it will just sit there without ill effect until it ages and Windows will just remove it.
Second. If it truly bothers you, just disable System Restore and then re-enable System Restore. The files in C:\_Restore will be purged and a new restore point is generated.
Final... You can't touch stuff in C:\_Restore in Windows (any mode.) I know how with a DOS boot diskette, but that's just an advanced user item.
As to the other item, use Google to research it and consider the tools to exorcise it.

Thanks Robert! Things are running better and cleaner. AdAware took out the junk. I looked at Googgle for the BI.dll and found Mickey Theman security forums. They recommend a popup blocker to block the offeroptimizer popups that appearently carried the malware in.
Are you aware of a blocker (??free??) that works well?

1. Mozilla from http://www.mozilla.org
2. The HPGuru's Hosts file from http://webpages.charter.net/hpguru/hosts/hosts.html
